Two years ago today...

Two years ago today, Chris and I were meeting for the first time and spending a lovely day falling in love in Savannah, GA.  This is a reenactment shot of the first picture we ever took together...

We started our trip off with pancakes at Funky Brunch, where you make your own pancakes.

Then we headed to meet up with the Phillips to hear Andrew's jazz band play.

We were glad to share such a fun experience with our friends...plus it's the same event that brought the Phillips to Savannah two years ago....the trip I stowed away on to meet Chris.

I especially loved going back to Oglethrope Square because two years ago that's where Chris asked to hold my hand for the first time.

This is the same shot we took two years ago.  The original one was right after we held hands for the first time and in that one I'm beaming from ear to ear!  In this one I'm beaming because I'm married to my sweetheart and he holds my hand all the time!

On our way to dinner at The Pirate's House, I snapped this pic of my snazzy husband...

Our second day in Savannah we explored more of the beautiful squares that we didn't see last time.  So much history and beauty...

Forsyth Park

We splurged for Leopold's Ice Cream...
 ...a Savannah landmark...

...that people wait in loooonnnngggg lines for!

We were excited to take our first carriage ride!

That's not our carriage, but it's like the one we rode in.

One of our favorite spots that we discovered our first time in Savannah is Byrd Cookie Company.

They make the cutest, yummiest tiny cookies in a ton of flavors!  We had a hard time not buying a bag of everything!

We wrapped up our trip with dinner at The Lady and Sons, Paula Deen's place.  I loved the iron skillet transom- so Southern!

We both enjoyed reliving the exhilaration and sweet days of our courtship and our life-changing day we spent in Savannah two years ago.  One thing's for sure- we weren't doing this two years ago today!

Housekeeping

We had a pretty productive Saturday. Chris decided to enjoy the nice weather and worked in the yard ALL day long! He ended up raking up 18 bags of leaves!

Poor guy's feeling it this morning!

I spent my day, prepping for our week's menu. I've found it's easier to cook yummy meals through the week when I spend 2-3 hours prepping food on Saturdays. So I chopped, baked and boiled but now I'm all set for the week!

I was especially excited to make frozen breakfast burritos to send Chris to work this week. I found a good recipe on Pinterest and got to work...

It's pretty self-explanatory, but I cooked  sausage, cheese, eggs, potatos, peppers and onions and added to a spinach wrap. Then I froze uncovered on a cookie sheet and after and hour, wrapped individually and froze. Chris will just have to reheat for 2 minutes and zap...a delicious weekday breakfast!

I'm trying several new recipes this week and if there aren't too many Pinterest fails, I'll let you know how they all are! Last night I made Chicken Cordon Bleu Casserole and we loved it. I served it with roasted asparagus and cranberry sauce. I didn't take a pic but the recipe is on my "Yummy" Pinterest board.

We ended our Saturday with a movie and popcorn...a relaxing end to a full day!

Nanny's Fried Pies

My Nanny was famous for her fried apples pies. She used to make a batch and send one with Popa in his lunchbox everyday. I've missed her pies so much so today, I attempted to recreate them.

They aren't near as good as I remember her's being but the house sure smelled like Nanny's kitchen! Oh what sweet memories...

Recreating Nanny's pies will require some more practice but at least the practice is delicious!

Ridin' in style!

Chris got a new car yesterday and boy is it nice!

I'm hoping he will let me borrow it on Fridays for groceries cause the back hatch is calling my name!

I'm especially excited for all the cup holders! Ahhh....it's the little things in life!

Cumberland Island

Chris and I had a beautiful Saturday on Cumberland Island.  It's just an hour from us and the weather was perfect!  Ever since JFK, Jr. and Caroline got married there, I've always wanted to go. The little church they got married at is at the far end of the island so we didn't make it there but I can see why the island enchanted them.

As we bought our ferry tickets, the park ranger said it was be "$8 for the daius" and I figured a "daius" was a small boat that took us from the ferry to the island.  Not being familiar with nautical words I figured it was something nautical I had never heard of.  After we paid, I asked Chris if he had heard of a "daius" and he said the $8 was for "day use" not a "daius".  Between this and my last post, I'm beginning to wonder about myself!  Needless to say we started our day with a laugh!

Our day started with a 45 minute ferry ride from St. Mary's, GA to Cumberland Island.

We were most excited to see the wild horses that roam the island!  We were literally just walking down a trail and there they were!  You'd have thought we'd never seen a horse before but seeing them wild was more exciting then seeing them on a farm.

At one point they started staring at Chris and then started walking straight for him.  I was afraid they were going to charge at him!

But they just walked across the trail and kept eating...

We also enjoyed seeing the ruins of Dungeness- a mansion that was owned by several well-known families, including the Carnegies.

The view walking up the drive reminded me of "Rebecca" the old Hitchcock film.

We saw even more horses!

Looks like Chris sawed the horses in half in this one!

This fellow galloped through the field and was so pretty!  But for the rest of the day, I thought I heard them galloping up behind us!

We had eaten our picnic lunch at this table just moments before the horses came by.

This little guy was scratching his back with the branch- smart guy!

A beautiful spot...a perfect day...a gracious Lord who gave us each other to enjoy it together.
