Gettin' our tree

Ta da!

On an unrelated note....I came within a whisker of getting Honey Bunch a cousin today!

But if she's anything like her would-be cousin, she'd eat our tree!

Our Thanksgiving

We kicked-off the holiday season last night with White Christmas at the Alhambra Dinner Theater. We were so excited to share such a fun night with Chris's parents and grandparents.

We enjoyed the lovely atmosphere!

We started with a first course of Creamed Onion Bisque with Cranberry Bruschetta.

We enjoyed a second course of Beef Bourguignon with Sour Cream Potatoes and Asparagus.

Our dessert of Creme Brûlée French Toast was incredible!

Then it was time for the show! We watch White Christmas every year so I loved seeing it live!

This morning we headed to Jasper, FL for lunch with Chris's extended family.

They had a yummy spread for us...and we especially enjoyed all the desserts!

I will be making this cake everyday for the rest of my life, by the way!

Meanwhile back at Moma's...my family had some sweet time together. They are already counting down to our Christmas visit!

The celebration continues!

Moma's birthday was earlier this month but she wasn't able to redeem her birthday present from all of us till Thursday- tickets to a Michael W. Smith concert!

She and Daddy had a great date night of Mexican food and worship music. Aren't they adorable?!?!

We've been huge Smitty fans for years so Moma loved the concert...especially getting her picture made with MWS!

It's been years since she'd seen him in concert but I think this picture proves "friends are friends forever, if the Lord's the Lord of them."

Sunny Florida

It might be sunny but it's been COLD!

Like build-a-fire cold...

Like scrape-frost-off-the-windshield-with-a-kitchen-spatula cold...

Good thing we'll be back to more Floridian temps soon!

Taco Lu's

We had a fun date night at Taco Lu's! They are known for their Mexican corn and unique taco selections.

We finished the night strolling through World Market and Target...which pretty much sums up my idea of a perfect Friday night!

Meet me at the fair!

We had a fabulous day! The weather was perfect so we headed to the fair!

We got to see the cutest farm animals. I couldn't get over how hefty Mama Pig was!

The best part of the fair was my $3 ride down the giant slide! It's one of the most fun things I've EVER done! Pretty sure you could hear my screams for miles! It felt like I was about to fly off it. I want one for Christmas!

Can't you hear my screams????

The fun continued as we strolled through Avondale, a really cute part of town. We split creme brûlée French toast with orange creme fraiche at Biscotti's. Yummy!

We topped off the day celebrating Moma via Skype for her birthday. She's the heart of our family and is loved greatly! She loved all the gifts and cards from everyone...and even tried to get in her new (giant!) tote bag!

Happy birthday to our favorite Moma!!!!

A Coffee Addict's Birthday

To celebrate Michael's birthday (our friend and my boss) I made Caramel Frappuccino cupcakes inspired by his love of all thing Starbucks.

I found the recipe on Pinterest and used the free printables they offered to make the wrappers and swiped a few extra straws last time we were at a Starbucks.

I was so pleased at how cute and delicious they were!  Michael loved them and even the restaurant owner and chef we do accounting for said they had great "depth of flavor."

No Pinterest fail today!

Happy birthday, Baby!

Chris's birthday was Thursday and we celebrated with a picnic lunch and then a nice dinner out.  His family came over last night to extend the celebration!

I made chicken cordon bleu, smashed red potatoes, green beans and fruit salad.  I hadn't made chicken cordon bleu since one of my Home Ec classes in college and was thrilled it came out so yummy!

The big surprise of the night was I had tracked down Chris's great-grandmother's 7-layer cake recipe. Making a 7-layer cake from scratch with homemade fudge frosting was a labor of love but who better to love on than my favorite birthday boy?!?!

Make a wish!

Blow out the candles! Keep trying...hmmm...try again....hmmm...what in the world!?!?

Major laughs- I had accidentally bought magic candles that kept re-lighting and we couldn't get them to stop burning!  The whole house filled with smoke and I was afraid the cake would taste like smoke, but we eventually got them extinguished and the cake survived!  It was hilarious!

As you can see there were ooo's and ahh's once I cut into the cake...mostly my ooo's and ahh's!

It was great spending an evening celebrating Chris, family...and a Gator win! Chomp, chomp, Baby!
