We had a fabulous day! The weather was perfect so we headed to the fair!
We got to see the cutest farm animals. I couldn't get over how hefty Mama Pig was!
The best part of the fair was my $3 ride down the giant slide! It's one of the most fun things I've EVER done! Pretty sure you could hear my screams for miles! It felt like I was about to fly off it. I want one for Christmas!
Can't you hear my screams????
The fun continued as we strolled through Avondale, a really cute part of town. We split creme brûlée French toast with orange creme fraiche at Biscotti's. Yummy!
We topped off the day celebrating Moma via Skype for her birthday. She's the heart of our family and is loved greatly! She loved all the gifts and cards from everyone...and even tried to get in her new (giant!) tote bag!
Chris's birthday was Thursday and we celebrated with a picnic lunch and then a nice dinner out. His family came over last night to extend the celebration!
I made chicken cordon bleu, smashed red potatoes, green beans and fruit salad. I hadn't made chicken cordon bleu since one of my Home Ec classes in college and was thrilled it came out so yummy!
The big surprise of the night was I had tracked down Chris's great-grandmother's 7-layer cake recipe. Making a 7-layer cake from scratch with homemade fudge frosting was a labor of love but who better to love on than my favorite birthday boy?!?!
Make a wish!
Blow out the candles! Keep trying...hmmm...try again....hmmm...what in the world!?!?
Major laughs- I had accidentally bought magic candles that kept re-lighting and we couldn't get them to stop burning! The whole house filled with smoke and I was afraid the cake would taste like smoke, but we eventually got them extinguished and the cake survived! It was hilarious!
As you can see there were ooo's and ahh's once I cut into the cake...mostly my ooo's and ahh's!
It was great spending an evening celebrating Chris, family...and a Gator win! Chomp, chomp, Baby!
