I Love Sunday

On Friday evening, my friends Ryan and Jennifer welcomed their new little girl, Sunday Ryan, into the world!  I can't even tell you how joyous the day was...for me!  You know what sweet feeling you feel when you see people you love hold the answer to their prayers in their arms?  That's what I experienced this weekend.

You know what's even better?

Holding the answer to their prayers in my arms!

Smacked By Gratitude

How great is it to be going through just a regular old day and be unexpectedly smacked by gratitude?!?

My smack happened today after I ate my baloney sandwich (what I had for lunch has no bearing on this story except now you know what I had for lunch!)

Anyway...I had a couple of hours to kill between classes and decided to work on my Technical Drawing homework in the lab. Since I was alone, I dug out my earbuds and cranked up iTunes.

Maybe it was the music or the baloney, but there was just something about being hunched over a drafting seemed the most perfect place to be.

This time last year I was stuck in a job I absolutely hated and was going no where fast...feeling pretty hopeless. But today...I find myself happier than I ever thought possible.

Not only is school going fantastic, but here are some other happy things in my life...

...Friday nights with friends

...a pretty full calendar of clients that have me shopping and decorating like crazy

...little boys who have me tie on their super hero capes and ask me to read them stories

Plus BSF started last week and I'm already adoring our new Teaching Leader and our study of Genesis! of my best friends is very close to having her first baby and how can that not make life feel happy??

Roar Lions!

Thought I'd share some pictures from around campus this week...

Our mascots, Leo and Una...

The campus at sunset...

And how cute is this: Bauer made me some UNA inspired art last week...

...then greeted me at the door this week with an U of A elephant!

Gotta love it!

David Phelps Barn Bash 2012

I lived one of my dreams this weekend!
As a delayed birthday celebration, Abby and I headed up to Culleoka, TN, just an hour and half north on I-65, for the Labor Day Barn Bash, hosted by David Phelps on his farm.
Hands-down, David is the best vocalist I've ever heard.  His background is gospel music but his training is in classical opera and coupled with his ability to hit tenor notes with the strength of a baritone, he is an absolutely a powerhouse!
I love all his music, but if love songs are your thing, you must get "The Voice" will take your breath away!

Because we are celebrity stalkers, Abby and I actually drove by the farm on our way into town and got this first view of his house...

and the barn...

Later that afternoon, after being bused to the farm from off-site parking, we joined about 500 people at a meet & greet with David and his wife, Lori.  The meet & greet was held in The Parlor, a converted milk barn that's now a recording studio. Not only has David recorded there, but also The Gaither Vocal Band. I barely remember anything about the meet and greet because it was so unreal and happened so fast but I know a professional photographer took my picture with David and Lori, but I don't have it back yet, so you'll have to take my word for it! I don't even remember smiling for the camera, but I remember putting my arm around David!

After the meet & greet, we headed to dinner under a large tent behind the barn.  The first night, we had BBQ chicken and then hamburgers and hot dogs Sunday night.  Blue Bell treated us to ice cream each night during intermission, plus cobbler Saturday night!  YUMMY!

After dinner, we headed to the barn!  Several years ago, David converted his barn into a concert hall, with a center stage and a FANTASTIC black chandelier!

The whole weekend was a dream!  Being 20 feet away from David as he sang some of the most beautiful music I've ever heard was just breathtaking.  Not only does he love the Lord, but he's a genuinely nice, funny guy...and very handsome!  I was so overwhelmed with the whole experience that at times that I found myself tearing up.  Sigh...I've never loved a barn so much...

I took about 250 pictures over the two nights and paring them down for my blog was painful!  I wish you all had been at the barn with me, but here's the next best thing...

How perfect is the barn at night?!?!  I think the black scrolls on the doors are brilliant!  No wonder Southern Living actually profiled the barn in one of their magazines a while back!

Because it's rained the last two years at the Barn Bash, David joked that he was going to rename it Barn Splash!  A torrential downpour was so heavy Saturday night, that David had to stop singing for a while because we couldn't hear him, but thankfully, the storms passed and the evening turned out perfect!

Barn Bash I come!
